WE ARE ON AIR!!!

Yippee!!! S.O.S Earth is on AIR!!
‘有情有爱 自由自在’
Do you know which radio station this tagline belongs to?? Guess.....
Yes! You are right! Its from Ai FM!!

Representatives from Media Relations and Editorial (MRE) as well as Programming (Exhibition) were the two volunteers to represent the whole APR1 students. Not forgeting, our super-women plus a little bit of cuteness in her, our event advisor, Ms Lim Siz Siz!!!

They move out an hour earlier from TAR College as they were unfamiliar with the area and surprisingly they reach on time and also manage to have a small talk with the host, also a senior broadcaster, Mun Meng.

(From left) representative from Programming (exhibition), DJ - Mun Meng, Representative from MRE (remember her face!)

At 12.15pm, the talk show begun! The representative from MRE department was so nervous as she was the first to talk, eventhough so, she managed quite well. Thumbs up! Everyone listen up!! She mentioned that she will reduce the usage of driving private car and will take public transports. So, if anyone of you saw her driving a car, report it here!!! Thank you!!!

Also, the Director of programming (exhibition) was as enthuasiastic as the DJ about environment issues as she shared with the listeners about her habit in 'tabaoing' her food. She said that she will bring along a food container to pack her food or she will quickly dine on spot shoud she forgot to brig one. No plastic bag! That's her motto. Way to go....

Then, the DJ asked, what is the biggest differences that both girls undergo before and after organizing this GREEN event? They believe that now they wanted to share the knowledge and information about conserving the environment with their family and friends, such as using non-woven bag while shopping and think twice before throwing away stuff which is harmful to our environment.

Overall, it is a relaxing talk show similar to a chit chat gathering.

(From left) Mun Meng and Ms Lim

YOU KNOW WHAT? Ms Lim actually make fun of the APR 1 students on air!! She said that when students who packed their food with plastic bag and polystyrene saw her and they quickly run away! (Actualy, I might do the same as well, shhhh) She believed that the habit to conserve the environment should start from the education wise. She said she saw us growing. From zero to hero. Although there were many conflicts among the organisers as it happen in all event, we manage to pull it off and had come out with an awesome campaign. She also said that she noticed that many of the organisers have become a 'Greener' person. Thank you, Ms Lim!!

Stay tuned....

Special thanks to...

2nd Day of The Event @ THE FINAL DAY

It’s confusing to see the crews smile today. Are they happy because it’s the final day or they are smiling because of the feedback (not friendly enough…etc) that they received yesterday? Never mind that as today is the day to improve, the day to enjoy; a day to be happy for all sorts of reasons.

The day starts as the crowd floods the hall. Just like the first day, the exhibition is the same but there are different activities on stage. It starts with a talk that was filled with quite a number of interactive spectators which is nice to see as it makes the talk livelier and more interesting.

Straight after that, the main event of the day: PERFORMANCE BY ARIC HO!!

Many might not know who he is but let me tip you guys. He is a Malaysian born, Singaporean based singer, actor and host = artist. He hosted several show in Malaysian and also Singapore and has his own album. The crowd went NUTS while waiting for his appearance.

INTRODUCED by a made-shift emcee (1 of our own), Aric (its AAAA-ric not Eric alright?) came out from the shadows, walks-in slowly and gently, says hi and waves to the crowd (the music is playing), picks up his notes and starts singing. His massaging voice made the crowd go melting over as the soothing song echoed the hall. It was nice and good. We are not being buyers but seriously it was nice NOT FORGETTING; GIRLS, HE IS QUITE GOOD LOOKING. After the singing and interviewing, the autograph session went on. Congratulation to all Aric’s fans. Soon after, Aric gets on the floor and visit the exhibition as well. Ushered by our crew, he gain information through explanation and he was quite impressed to show what we have done *applauds*.

Aric Ho in the exhibition

After he left, there were some other interesting activities went on; THE POTTED TREE PLANTING session. The crowd was asked to join the as there were 50 plants ready to be planted and given away as souvenirs. It was great to see that all 30 sits that were prepared was full and the crowd actually enjoyed the session but it was kind of short to be honest.

Smiles from the crowd that join the tree planting session

In this exhibition, there are a few things that stand out from the rest of the exhibit items. It catches the eye of many and was always crowded with people. THE MUD-BALL MAKING. Made out of few subtends; it really stinks, the mud-ball function as an “anti-dirty” organic cleanser that actually helps the soil + water in the river to improve.

The MUD-BALL maker showing and guiding the crowd on how to make MUD-BALLS.

As time goes on, the closing ceremony comes closer. Sharp at 4.30pm, Abby burst into scene and announce the winners of the PAPER TOWER guessing event. It is where stacks of A4 and old newspapers in a tower cage that were counted 1-by-1 by two of our organizing committee in order to let the crowd guess how many pieces of paper that were in the tower. Of coz there were hints, but no one will ever get the exact answer but as close as you gets, you will win prizes worth RM500. We limit the number of contestants to 500 people only just to match the prize.

The Grand Winner, Mr Gan Hong Bin!!

Straight after that, the closing ceremony was held and it was the end of the event. Overall, the event got quite good comments but of course there were flaws. It was a good effort thrown out by the students, advisors and of course, without the sponsors, NGOs and governmental org’s support, we would not have done it as well as we did.

To waste, to destroy our natural resources, to skin and exhaust the land instead of using it so as to increase its usefulness, will result in undermining in the days of our children the very prosperity which we ought by right to hand down to them amplified and developed.

There are more...

After the awesome opening, we have more things awaiting for us! Heard of DiGi Deep Green before? Well, DiGi is very determined to do something about the climate change within its own sphere of influence. Hence, they came to our college at 2.00pm to give a talk about their Deep Green project to educate the students of TARC about the climate change and reducing CO2 emission. Mr Philip was the speaker of the day and thank you for the beneficial talk!

Right after DiGi Deep Green talk, One FM Cuiser visited our college!!!

It was crazy, i can tell you.

Once they started their games, everyone was excited to get the answers right in order to get the prizes. Even, the organising committees get excited.

Soon after, the speaker from Justife company, Ms Connie, demostrated the prcoess of making garbage enzyme to the audience. This garbage enzyme was made using unwanted waste and it is organic, not to mention that it is environmental-friendly. Thank you Justlife for the amazing talk!

Look forward for the second day....

Awesome Opening !!!

Hey peeps…!!! IT’S THE 11TH AUGUST 2009. THE DAY THAT WE’VE BEEN WAITING FOR HAS FINALLY ARRIVED!! What we’ve work so hard for will come into play. The planning, setups, decorations and presentations are all up and ready to go.

First up, the OPENING CEREMONY. After 2 inspiring speech by both the Principal of Tunku Abdul Rahman College; Dr.Chik Heok and Head of School of Social Science and Humanities; Mr. Lee Hwee Chuin, the opening ceremony, lead by the one and only, Mr. Matthias Gelber, together with fellow Earth-Rangers to march in the hall chanting “S.O.S EARTH!”. The march shaken the whole hall as the impact of the loud chant echoed.

Mr. Lee giving his speech...

(MR MATTHIAS PIC WITH DA GLASSES) The ever so COOL Mr. Matthias alongside the Earth-Rangers!!

Marching in slow and loud with ongoing chants, Mr. Matthias held a plant that signifies the saving of trees or so to speak; the environment, marches on to the stage to join the awaiting principal; Dr. Tan Chik Heok on stage and together planting the plant on the globe that represents the Earth not forgetting a long list of VIPs consist of; Dato’ Ching founder of PASS, Callie Tai CEO of Justlife, Director of Truly Loving Campaign Mr. Khaw Chay Tee, Mr. Chong from Melsom, Mr. Ferdinand from WWF, Mr. Thevarajan from EPSM, lecturers, former students and even parents.

Moving on, the audience and VIP’s been pampered by a wonderful round of fashion show. Aren’t like any other, the clothes are specially made by our own students themselves; APR1, using recycled materials such as cans, used cloth, bottle caps, old newspapers and even plastic bags!! Honestly, we are amazed by what the outcome is as the designs are impressive. Applause to them. After all that, the exhibitions starts officially as the crowd starts filling in the hall.

After the glorious opening, the Principal; Dr. Tan Chik Heok, Mr. Lee and Mr. Matthias went around the hall to visit booth by booth where in sequence Forest, Land, Ocean, River and Air (FLORA). Accompanied by thorough explanation, the trio walked while listening to the students’ explanation.

Meanwhile, as the crowd starts enjoying the exhibition, we send off the VIPs as they have some others things on their schedule but not before they put a mark on our exit.

Hey guys! Seen an Anplas bag before? If you haven, the picture below may give you a rough idea of how an Anplas Bag looks like.
