Pre-event visit to Traffic

‘Traffic’!

“Very good! Nowadays less people has passion to join environment conservation” said Ms . Noorainie Awang, the Senior Program Officer of TRAFFIC. It is our first time that we met her, and she already praised us. Not to boast, at least we are putting some effort to save our Mother Earth.

9th July 09, It was another knowledgeable day for us; we visited TRAFFIC, the wildlife trade monitoring network that works to ensure trade in wild plants and animals is not a threat to the conservation of nature, at Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

For your information, Traffic is a joint programme of World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF)
and The Word Conservation Union (IUCN).

Ms.Noorainie introduced the history of TRAFFIC with linkages with other countries, and showed us some smuggle sample that is out of expectation including; Monitor Lizard, Pangolin Skin, Snake Skin, Cobra Spectacle Case, Saiga Antelpe Horn, Agarwod, nepenthes, timber sepsis and so on. It was quiet interesting because we seldom get in touch with these ‘unusual’ things before, not bad!

LISTENING CLOSELY…as Ms. Noorainie Awang Anak explains about TRAFFIC, the raw materials as well as the forest.

Also, we speak about our event with Ms.Noorainie, and she had told us a lot of things that we do not realize such as; protected sepsis Orchid and Nepenthes in Peninsular Malaysia can be plucked but not in Sabah or Sarawak (OR YOU WILL BE JAILED!!), Forest fire is the main cause of disforestation, illegal crocodile skin and more.

We learned quite a lot with just 2hours spend. She is really a nice person and was willing to help us by giving many experiences and suggestions. Thanks Ms.Noorainie! We appreciate what you have taught us and keep spreading the love!

Say Cheese!!

* Agarwood (Same as Timber sepsis – the price is very expensive and mild smelly, normally Chinese used it for pray and it is a traditional Chinese medicine.)

* Traffic is a joint programme of World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF) and The Word Conservation Union (IUCN).

Meeting with the Creative Agency

Many of our team members knows that the directors have meeting every Tuesday and Thursday, and by the time we walk out from the meeting room the sky is no longer bright. We are safe to say that it is DARK out there.

We always have meeting in Ms Lim’s room or in any room available in V block. Every once a week we will meet up with the Creative Agency. You may wonder what we are discussing. Do we have that much to discuss until late in the evening? You will be surprise.

Let me show you the process of one of the meeting help between the organizers and the creative agency with the supervision of Ms Lim and Ms Serene which begin at 6.30pm. (Before that the organisers have meeting with Ms Lim from 3.30pm)

Sponsorship team from both Organiser and Creative Agency

Now, before the meeting official begins the Advertising and Sponsorship Department has already begun their own meeting to discuss about sponsorship matter. Can you see how serious they are?

The meeting begun with the Director of Programming (Activities) explained to the Creative Agency about our decision to use one main concept for banner and bunting design. The globe with a plant in it (shown below) will be our event’s brand image whereby it will appear everywhere including letterhead, t-shirt, backdrop and even in this blog.

As there are so many differences in opinions in term of designs and the end is scatter all around, we decided to stick to one design (as shown below) whereby other items such as banner, bunting and letterhead will be based on that design for consistency.

Even our own directors are listening attentively..

They are smiling!! That means they are happy with our performance? Fat chance…

After that, the Creative Agency introduces the teaser ad, campaign ad, email banner, t-shirt, and so on to seek for approval. Here come the decision-making time. While we do the decision and necessary amendment, we always concern about members’ opinions. As the member might not like what we have decided, we have to think twice before making a decision for the decision we made affect the whole organising committee as a whole. Not to mention that the pressure is there.

The Organisers are giving comment and necessary amendments.

The Creative Agency takes note and work professionally...

Later, the Agency show us the story board of how the TVC will look like (Sorry can’t show it here). We have separated discussion after that to decide on the TVC. After much discussion, we meet up with the Agency again to inform them about their opinion and decision...

Look at the window! It’s pitch DARK out there!

Soon after the all the decisions have been made, we go home!! Home sweet home!!! Home, here we come.

Pre-Event Visit to DBKL

Yeah!! Let’s go to our next destination, Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL). The total of five Earth Rangers from Land team went to the DBKL to get an in-sight on how DBKL works and also to get more information about environment.

On the 9th July 2009, five of them gathered at DKABE and begins their journey to DBKL at around 2.30 pm. This time around, they are not going by college bus, or by van, but with their own car. Once they had reached there, Mr. Kuit, the Senior Executive of Operations Department was there to welcome them.

History class has always been the most dreadful class and I bet you have enough of ‘History’ throughout your life as high school students. However, I felt the need to tell you a story about DBKL. Kuala Lumpur City’s management is handled by one corporate sole, since April 1961, initially called Federal Capital Commissioner but was later renamed as Kuala Lumpur Mayor when the city was conferred the City status on 1st February, 1972. DBKL main aim and mission is to plan, develop, administer and manage Kuala Lumpur to be a World Class City. Isn’t that honourable? Give a round of applause to DBKL!!

The meeting with Mr. Kuit started off by him, using point slide show to explain to them about the operation of DBKL. Not only do they need more information about them, but also intended to request for the 3R recycle bin. After several negotiations with the Mr Kuit, they had successfully obtained the recycle bin from DBKL. Many thanks to their assistance in ensuring the success of the event!

Soon after the briefing, Mr. Kuit brought us for a tour to the different department in order to further understand the daily job scope of each department. After the well-informed tour, we were given flyers to distribute it during the event and we were more than delighted to do so after the friendly and informative visit to DBKL!

Have you ever wonder where did your rubbish go after being collected (if you know who are collecting them)? Have it ever cross your mind that without the rubbish collector in DBKL, your housing area will stink to the max as your wastes are not disposed?

Hats off to DBKL!

Let go to the picture section!! See more pictures!

Friendly Mr. Kuit (second from left)

Ever wonder who collected all the rubbish around Wangsa Maju area? Well, today you get a hance to meet him. He is the man standing at the most right. Handsome, right? Anyone contributing to the environment conservation is consider handsome!^_^

Want one? Just come to our event and you will get more information about it.
