GEC is a non-profit organization in Malaysia that works on environment issues of global importance. GEC’s mission is to support the protection of the environment and sustainable use of natural resources such as promoting integrated management of biodiversity and water resources, promote protection and sustainable use of forests wetlands and so on. On the 20th of June, we also participated in the Mangrove Tree Planting program which was organized by the GEC as to prove our determination in saving the earth. Check it out on here- http://sosearth2009.blogspot.com/2009_06_20_archive.html
During this visit, we had a brief discussion session with Ms.Darshana on how GEC can help us in order to make our event, SOS Earth, a success and meaningful event to create big impact to the society which is; the importance of saving the earth. GEC are able to provide us with some posters, flyers, booklets, besides, and videos regarding forest issues to be exhibited during the event. Thanks to her kindness, she suggested a few effective ways to make our event more interesting.
Not forgetting our main purpose of our visit, Ms.Darshana was so enthusiastic and kind to share with us loads of information on forest issues. She explained to us about the causes of Deforestation, whereby the causes are due to the selfishness of human-being in order to achieve full development and trees are being cut down for their economy values, and of course profit. It might sound very cruel, but the truth can’t be denied. She also shared with us about the animal extinction caused by the living areas and habitats being destroyed but also provides us with solutions to save the trees and the forests.
Well. All in all, it was an awesome, meaningful, and beneficial visit as it really helps us a lot in our preparations for the upcoming event “SOS Earth”! Million thanks to Ms.Darshana for her willingness to provide us with all these information! Information can be provided but we, as human-beings, must realize the responsibility of saving and protecting the earth.
Say cheese, and back to college with loads of useful information and valuable experience.
We live in a web of ideas, a fabric of our own making.
